Stagecoach Fife trial of a hovercraft 2007

The full version of this video is now available to view on the FIDN website again due to the fact that Stagecoach is again planning to go ahead with this service if the negotiation they are having with Fife Council and Edinburgh City Council is successfull, but it can also be made available to view at our office or you can purchace a copy of the video at a small charge. Fife Independent Disability Network This video was taken of one of the trial journeys of the Stagecoach Fife trial of a hovercraft from Kirkcaldy, Fife to Portobello, Lothians in 2007. The FIDN said to Stagecoach that if they are going to have a trail disabled people should be included in this. So some members of the FIDN committee where asked along to see if they could access and depart the hovercraft. One off the members that came along was in a power wheelchair and another was in a electric scooter, neither could gain access to the hovercraft in there vehicles. The stagecoach staff (engineers) the been asked to see if they could make something that could get a wheelchair onto the hovercraft, and what they came up with was down right ingenious (you will see it in the video). The only problem was that it could only be used with the manual wheelchair. The person that was using the powerchair could not transfer from it to the manual wheelchair that was supplied but the person using the electric scooter could so he was transferred into the manual wheelchair and then taken onto the hovercraft.
